I recently was listening to a speaker with a master’s degree in history, and he commented on the overall feeling of Americans right now in our day and time. I could agree with him that I too hear a lot of people commenting that we are “in the worst time in American history right now,” but I also could agree with his educated and factual statement that that is simply not true. Although we may feel that these are sad times in our country, and I’ll admit they are pretty discouraging, the fact is they are not the worst of times historically. I think sometimes the devil likes to make us feel like we’ve already lost, but in reality we have not.
So what happens when the going gets tough? The tough usually get going, right? When you’ve personally found yourself against the wall, is that the moment when Christ reveals himself most strongly both to and through you? It’s certainly proven that way for me, and I believe that in these precise moments in our history, right here and right now, I believe Christ is rising up His church. We should be excited, not downtrodden.
Do you ever take a moment to consider, I mean in between wailing over the choices of presidential candidates available, that God is sovereign? Do you realize He knows precisely who will be elected to hold the office of POTUS, and He is not worried one single bit? None of this is taking our God off guard. So why are we so distraught?
I believe God would wish to speak to all His children’s hearts prior to the election, and I think He would speak this.
Your future does that depend on who is elected president as much as it relies on who is your God. Is your God a political party, or does your Lord reign in Heavenly places? Did you consider that those same Heavenly places and powers also reside in you? The power of Heaven is yours on earth as a child of the One True King, and it’s time for God’s people to arise boldly in His name, regardless of who sits in the Oval Office. You were made for such a time as this, and no matter what comes to pass, greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
What if the wrong person gets elected, you may wonder. But I would remind you of this. I Am is always greater than what if.
Consider this another great awakening, another moment for Christ to shine His glory through the darkness and shake up His saints. I’ve been reading on a particular verse this week in Deuteronomy.
Deuteronomy 32:39
“See now that I myself am he! There is no god besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand.
None of this is a shock to our God, and though we may not can fathom the choices before us or the future ahead, in the Lord’s eyes it has already been. Whoever comes into power He has allowed to arrive there, and you can bet on one certain thing. He will use it for His good. No matter who is president come November 9th, God will be in control. Y’all, there is an enormous amount of relief and peace in that truth, and I hope you’re holding that in your hearts in the days to come.
Sadly I believe that the less than stellar choices for a leader are a reflection of where we are as a nation, but I do not believe it signifies the end of the story. Perhaps, even, it is just the beginning. Perhaps this is a breaking point for God to reveal Himself more clearly through those who would call upon His name. Perhaps now He is lining up Godly leaders and disciples to break through and do new, amazing feats for His glory. The God I know? I could see Him doing just that.
But we must be willing. We mustn’t allow Satan to tell us we have lost this world. We must be ready to put on the armor of God and battle for truth. God is in the heart-changing business, and if ever the world was ready for change, I believe it to be now.
I have my own desires for the outcome of this election, as I’m sure do you, but regardless of how the day ends, for me it will end in victory. My soul will not be downcast, for my eyes will be upturned to the King. I’ll be ready for my marching orders no matter what the ballot counts say, and I believe that’s what God would say to any of us.
He is now, and will always be, on the throne. So I’m good. Are you?
